An established manufacturer of engineered pipe coupling and jointing solutions requires an experienced Production Planner to coordinate production activities, customer orders, material availability and delivery schedules within a busy manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will maintain accurate production trackers, monitor order progress, provide reliable lead times and work closely with Production, Sales and Supply Chain to ensure that customer orders are completed accurately and on schedule. The position requires regular production-floor involvement, strong reporting abilities and a proactive approach to resolving delays and material-related challenges.
Minimum Requirements:
Matric or an equivalent qualification.
A relevant post-matric qualification in Production Planning, Manufacturing, Operations, Supply Chain or a related field would be advantageous.
Minimum of five years’ working experience within a manufacturing or production environment.
Previous hands-on experience in production planning, scheduling or production coordination.
Experience compiling and maintaining production trackers, schedules and priority lists.
Ability to interpret sales orders, back-order reports, order confirmations and production requirements.
Understanding of manufacturing lead times, production capacity, material availability and order deadlines.
Experience coordinating with Production, Sales and Supply Chain departments.
Strong computer literacy, including spreadsheets and production tracking or planning systems.
Strong numerical, analytical and administrative abilities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Strong planning, organisational and follow-up skills.
Able to work accurately under pressure and manage changing production priorities.
Proactive and willing to maintain a visible presence on the production floor.
Familiarity with 5S activities and continuous-improvement practices would be advantageous.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Compile and update the production tracker daily according to customer, sales order number and product.
Monitor and use back-order reports to identify outstanding orders and production priorities.
Print and distribute the production tracker to the relevant team leaders.
Print and distribute order confirmations to Production.
Issue amended order confirmations when customers make changes to their orders.
Inform team leaders of new sales orders, amended requirements and priority orders.
Provide accurate production lead times and due dates for new customer orders.
Monitor the progress of customer orders and follow up consistently to ensure deadlines are met.
Maintain regular visibility on the production floor to verify progress and identify potential delays.
Prepare and manage production-related documentation, including cutting lists and priority lists.
Coordinate material requirements with the Supply Chain Manager.
Resolve material-related challenges, including late, unavailable or incorrect raw materials.
Liaise daily with Production, Sales and Supply Chain employees regarding orders, priorities and delivery commitments.
Coordinate and participate in daily production meetings with team leaders, the Managing Director and the Supply Chain Manager.
Present production updates and provide Sales with accurate feedback on customer orders.
Attend daily VDM meetings and provide concise production updates to management and the wider team.
Update monthly work-centre hours and employee hours.
Update the month-end productivity dashboard for operational meetings.
Support the effective allocation and utilisation of employees across different workstations.
Participate in and assist with 5S activities.
Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of production-planning strategies, processes and systems.
Compile employee gate passes when required.
Maintain accurate production records, reports and communication throughout the planning process.
