A South African technology company specialising in ICT infrastructure, smart-city solutions and green energy is seeking a dedicated and reliable Accountant. Based in Sandton and reporting to the Head of Finance, the successful candidate will manage daily accounting activities, statutory submissions, financial reporting and reconciliations while ensuring accurate records and compliance with South African accounting and tax regulations
The company does not provide annual salary increases. However, employees may request an individual salary review after completing one year of service, with any adjustment remaining at the Managing Director’s discretion. The company has historically awarded between one and three performance-related bonuses annually, subject to individual and company performance. Following successful completion of probation, employees may join the Discovery Medical Aid scheme, to which the company contributes. Employees also benefit from a two- to three-week festive-season shutdown, which is not deducted from their annual leave entitlement
Minimum Requirements:
Grade 12
Three-year Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field
Three to five years’ proven accounting experience in a similar position, preferably within a similar industry
Strong knowledge of financial management principles, practices and regulations
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Practical experience using Sage Accounting is essential
Hands-on experience with SARS eFiling and tax submissions is essential
Advanced knowledge and practical experience in:
VAT
PAYE
UIF
SDL
Corporate Income Tax
Good understanding of South African accounting principles
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Ability to handle and maintain confidential information
Ethical, dependable and reliable work ethic
Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Duties and Responsibilities:
Process daily accounting transactions using Sage Accounting
Perform bank reconciliations and maintain accurate accounting records
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
Prepare monthly management accounts
Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures
Prepare and submit VAT returns
Prepare and submit PAYE, UIF and SDL returns
Assist with provisional tax and Corporate Income Tax compliance
Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies
Maintain the fixed asset register
Ensure compliance with South African accounting and tax regulations
Liaise with SARS, auditors, banks and external service providers when required
Assist with improving accounting processes and maintaining accurate financial records
Perform other finance-related duties as required
