An established animal feed and equestrian retail business based in Chartwell requires a knowledgeable and customer-focused Sales Representative to promote and sell its extensive range of horse feed, animal feed, supplements, equestrian products and related supplies. The position has a strong equine focus and requires someone who genuinely understands horses, their nutritional needs and the different feeds used across life stages, workloads and disciplines. The successful candidate will provide informed product guidance, build lasting relationships with horse owners, stable yards, trainers and other animal owners, and grow sales through excellent service and proactive business development. The company also supplies feed and products for livestock, poultry, pets and other small animals.
Minimum Requirements:
Matric or an equivalent qualification
Valid driver’s licence and own reliable vehicle
Proven sales experience, preferably within the equine, animal feed, agricultural, pet-care or related industry
Extensive practical knowledge of horses is essential
Strong understanding of horse feed, supplements and general equine nutritional requirements
Able to discuss feeding requirements according to a horse’s age, condition, workload and activity
Experience working with horses, stable yards, equestrian centres, riding schools, trainers or horse owners
Knowledge of feed and products for livestock, poultry, pets or other animals would be advantageous
Confident and knowledgeable when advising customers and recommending suitable products
Strong customer-service, relationship-building and communication skills
Sales-driven and comfortable working towards monthly targets
Able to identify new business opportunities and develop a loyal customer base
Comfortable conducting both face-to-face and telephone-based sales
Proactive, self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision
Good administrative, quotation, order-processing and follow-up abilities
Computer literate, with working knowledge of Microsoft Office and sales or point-of-sale systems
Willing and able to travel to customers, stable yards and equestrian facilities when required
Duties and Responsibilities:
Sell horse feed, supplements, animal feed and related equestrian and animal-care products
Assist customers in selecting suitable feed and products according to their animals’ requirements
Provide knowledgeable guidance on the company’s different equine feed ranges
Explain product features, feeding guidelines and benefits clearly and responsibly
Build and maintain relationships with horse owners, trainers, stable yards, riding schools and equestrian businesses
Develop relationships with livestock owners, breeders, farmers and other animal-product customers
Identify and pursue new sales opportunities within the equine and broader animal-feed market
Contact prospective customers and introduce the company’s product range and services
Conduct customer visits and product presentations where required
Prepare quotations, process orders and follow up with customers
Achieve agreed monthly sales and commission targets
Follow up on enquiries, outstanding quotations and repeat-order opportunities
Maintain accurate customer, sales and order information
Keep customers informed about product availability, new ranges, promotions and special offers
Monitor customer requirements and recommend suitable alternative products when necessary
Work closely with management, purchasing, stock and delivery teams to ensure accurate order fulfilment
Assist with resolving customer queries and product-related concerns professionally
Stay informed about developments in equine nutrition, animal feed and relevant product ranges
Attend equestrian events, agricultural shows, demonstrations or promotional activities when required
Provide regular sales, customer-activity and business-development reports to management
