A well-established manufacturing and distribution group is seeking an experienced Fleet Manager to oversee the combined vehicle operations of two sister companies situated adjacent to one another. Each company maintains its own fleet, one smaller and one larger, requiring an organised and proactive professional to ensure both are managed efficiently under unified oversight. The role involves full responsibility for fleet strategy, maintenance, compliance, and operational efficiency, ensuring maximum vehicle uptime and cost control across both entities. This is a hands-on position suited to someone with strong leadership, logistical coordination, and analytical abilities who can operate confidently in a busy industrial environment
Minimum Requirements:
Matric (Grade 12) essential
Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Transport Management, Supply Chain or related field advantageous
Minimum 5 years’ proven experience in fleet management, logistics, or transport operations
Valid driver’s licence and clean driving record
Strong understanding of fleet maintenance, lifecycle management, and cost control
Experience using fleet management software or telematics tracking systems
Solid knowledge of South African transport and road compliance regulations
Excellent planning, coordination, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond quickly to operational needs
High attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and a proactive work ethic
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee day-to-day operations of both company fleets, ensuring all vehicles are properly maintained, licensed, and roadworthy
Develop and manage preventative maintenance schedules to minimise downtime and extend vehicle lifespan
Monitor and control fleet costs including fuel, tyres, services, insurance, and repairs
Track vehicle movements using telematics systems; analyse driver behaviour, route efficiency, and fuel consumption
Manage supplier relationships with workshops, fuel providers, and insurance companies
Coordinate licensing, registration, and renewal of all vehicles in compliance with legal requirements
Investigate and report on vehicle incidents, breakdowns, and damages; oversee insurance claims and repair processes
Maintain accurate fleet records including maintenance logs, inspection reports, driver rosters, and utilisation statistics
Provide monthly reports to senior management on performance metrics, costs, and recommendations for improvement
Manage driver conduct and compliance with company policies; implement safety and performance initiatives
Support operational teams by ensuring vehicles are available and fit for purpose to meet daily business requirements
Prepare and manage annual fleet budgets and contribute to long-term asset replacement planning
Ensure all health, safety, and environmental standards are upheld in all transport and vehicle-related activities
