Location: Sandton, Johannesburg
Salary: R30 000 to R38 000 per month (CTC, depending on experience)
Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Environment: Import and Export, Office-Based

A small, long-established import and export business is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to join its close-knit team. The company has been operating for over 30 years and works extensively with African markets. Experience handling international payments and applying exchange rates accurately is essential, as the role involves regular foreign currency transactions.

This is a stable, hands-on environment where accuracy, reliability and ownership of work are valued. The team is loyal, supportive and direct, and the company rewards consistency and long-term commitment.

The ideal candidate is meticulous and steady, with strong full-function bookkeeping experience and the ability to manage the accounting function confidently and independently.

This role will not suit someone seeking corporate progression, title changes or hybrid/remote work. It also will not be suitable for anyone needing supervision or retraining in core bookkeeping fundamentals.

Responsibilities
Financial Accounting
Full bookkeeping function to trial balance
Capture and reconcile supplier invoices, bank accounts and credit cards
Process international (forex) payments and apply exchange rates correctly
Reconcile debtors and creditors
Manage petty cash and staff expenses
Prepare monthly management statements and supporting schedules
Submit VAT, Workmen’s Compensation and other statutory returns
Maintain accurate and organised documentation
Assist with audit preparation when required

Systems and Processes
Use accounting software confidently (Palladium is beneficial, but not essential)
Identify, investigate and resolve discrepancies proactively
Maintain structured, well-documented financial records

Team Support
Work closely with the Directors and the small office team
Assist occasionally with general office support where needed
Contribute to a respectful, direct and supportive working culture

Requirements:
Approximately 10+ years of full-function bookkeeping experience
Strong reconciliation and documentation discipline
Experience with international payments and currency conversion
Proficiency in Excel and accounting systems
Comfortable working permanently in the office (no hybrid or remote)
