Looking for a hands on Junior Draughtsman with sheet metal experience to translate concepts into accurate manufacturing drawings and programs. You’ll prepare 2D/3D CAD drawings, generate laser/punch nestings and job cards, and support production to ensure on time, quality output.
Minimum Requirements:
1–2 years’ experience as a Draughtsman/Draftsperson in a sheet metal manufacturing environment (essential)
Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD/Inventor) (essential)
Strong understanding of sheet metal design principles: bend allowances, K factor, minimum flange, reliefs, tolerances (essential)
Microsoft Excel for BOMs, job cards and data tracking (essential)
Nesting exposure (e.g., SigmaNEST/BySoft/Radan/TruTops) (advantageous)
Knowledge of CNC punch and laser machinery workflows (advantageous)
Ability to read/interpret technical drawings and GD&T
High attention to detail, accuracy, and version control discipline
Strong communication and teamwork across engineering, production and stores
Duties and Responsibilities:
Produce accurate 2D/3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings for sheet metal components and assemblies
Create detailed drawings for bending/press brake and assembly (flat patterns, bend lines, notes, tolerances)
Generate nestings for laser cutting and prepare programs for CNC punch machines
Create and print job cards for lasers/punch, ensuring correct materials, quantities, and routing
Maintain and update BOMs and drawing registers, ensuring revision control and traceability
Collaborate with production to resolve manufacturability issues; implement engineering changes
Assist production workers with drawing clarification and first off checks
Support inventory/stores with counts, material usage tracking, and part identification
Apply house standards and best practices for drawing quality, dimensioning, and file management
Contribute to continuous improvement in nesting yield, cycle time, scrap reduction and rework
Tools & Technologies:
CAD: SolidWorks / AutoCAD / Inventor (or similar)
Nesting/CAM: SigmaNEST / BySoft / Radan / TruTops (or similar)
MS Office (strong Excel skills for templates, registers, and data analysis)
ERP/MES exposure beneficial (for job creation, routing, BOMs)
